Investigating the Link between Parental Relationships and Friendships in Adolescent Girls

Beckman Institute Postdoctoral Research Fellow Michelle Rodrigues and Professor Kathryn B. H. Clancy of Anthropology investigate the effects of parental relationships on peer relationships in adolescent girls.  

Their new study, which was published in the American Journal of Primatology, concluded that the quality of maternal relationships affects female friendships in adolescent girls. Furthermore, the parental relationships, especially fathers, may buffer depressive symptoms.
